This session will explore roles for heritage activities in addressing social justice as demonstrated by small organizations and governments working with communities across Canada. This will include questions of diverse community representation, addressing historic racism, countering ongoing erasure, the roles of youth groups and cross-cultural work, methodology for community work and partnership with Indigenous communities for reconciliation. Specific contexts include heritage museums, built heritage, affordable housing and living heritage in Vancouver, Nova Scotia, Saskatchewan and Ontario.
