Alex R. Carpenter comes from a civil engineering undergraduate background with a master's degree in the Conservation of Historic Buildings from the University of Bath, England. Their master's research included a thesis on the conservation of New York State Whipple bowstring trusses through a reconciliation of British and American conservation methods for iron birdges. Currently, they are a PhD student at the University of Toronto, studying the use of structural health monitoring to inform and assess conservation efforts in heritage buildings with limited funding and at risk of failure without intervention.
