Emma is a Principal of Invizij Architects and specializes in Housing, Sustainable Design, and work with non-profits. A graduate of the Universities of Illinois and Waterloo, she is a registered architect with over 15 years of architectural experience. She is involved in various community-building initiatives in downtown Hamilton and is an advocate for Low Carbon/Net Zero/Passive House design. She was recently awarded ‘Environmentalist of The Year’ by Environment Hamilton. A regular speaker on Passive House, Affordable Housing, and Heritage Restoration in both the US and Canada.
Dr. Randy Van Straaten has worked on historic masonry interior insulation retrofits for Building Science Corporation and then RDH Building Science and finally his own firm Building Enclosure Labs Inc stretching over 20 years and many projects. This work has grown from masonry decay risk assessments to optimizing insulation strategies for thermal performance and more recently to minimize embodied carbon impacts. He has recently completed a major optimization and methodology study for BC Housing focused on the evolving field of embodied carbon analysis for buildings. Randy continues to share the insights he gathers through regular publications, webinars, and conference presentations.
