These craftsmen, renowned for their expertise in the field of built heritage conservation, will welcome participants to the Ateliers de la pierre du Québec workshop school, a place where traditional skills are passed on and perfected.
The day will be structured to offer a balance between theory and practice. Different aspects of stone working will be explored through a series of informative oral presentations and interactive practical workshops.
Oral Presentations - Stone Conservation: Participants will discover the fundamentals of stone conservation, including methods for protecting and preserving historic materials. This session will highlight concrete case studies and proven restoration techniques. - Techniques for Reproducing Architectural Elements: This presentation will focus on the methods used to reproduce architectural elements in stone. Participants will learn about traditional and modern reproduction techniques, such as the use of cross-focusing and 3D digitizing. - Traditional Stonemasonry Tools: A detailed exploration of traditional stonemasonry tools, including their history, evolution and proper use. Participants will understand the importance of choosing the right tools for the job.

Under the careful supervision of craftsmen, they will have the opportunity to experiment with the use of different stone-cutting tools. They'll be able to perform finishes on several types of stone, exploring the texture, hardness and peculiarities of each stone.
This day-long workshop promises to be an enriching experience, enabling participants to develop a thorough understanding of stone-cutting techniques and heritage conservation, while acquiring practical skills they can apply to their own heritage restoration projects.
HSW Justification: All of the learning objectives relate to the HSW topic of protection of the natural environment through: - The reuse of stone material to maximize the embodied carbon investment of construction and evaluation, project development, and documentation, project planning and design. - Learning modern stone cutting and finishing techniques that minimize carbon impact and water resource use for new materials to be used alongside existing restored materi"
