This session will be focused on recent changes to heritage and planning legislation in Ontario prompted by a housing crisis, and the impacts of these changes at the local municipal level. Perspectives and case studies from both municipal and private heritage experts will provide insights and tools applicable to communities outside of Ontario as well. Speakers will cover how to approach the heritage evaluation of properties, the protection of properties through heritage conservation districts, and the concept of whole-building retention within the context of a housing crisis and the challenges of climate change, gentrification and the displacement of vulnerable communities.
