Jan Kubanek, Architecte OAQ OAA CAHP (he/him/his)

Jan Kubanek OAQ OAA CAHP is a graduate of McGill University’s School of Architecture and an architect specializing in building preservation, restoration and adaptive reuse. During his over 20 years of experience, Jan has worked on all project phases including building analysis, schematic and design development, approvals processes with municipal, provincial and federal authorities, contract documents, tendering and site review.

Jan also holds a diploma in construction carpentry and has worked on a variety of job sites, experiences that have broadened and deepened his understanding of construction practices and traditions. Jan’s thoroughness and attention to detail makes him well suited for complex conservation projects requiring a high level of sensitivity and thoughtfulness. For this reason, Jan’s projects are primarily with public sector clients such as the federal and provincial governments, public agencies and academic institutions.

His portfolio covers a wide variety of projects, such as the rehabilitation of a portion of the former Royal Victoria Hospital site for the McGill New Vic Project, the Senate of Canada rehabilitation project (formerly Ottawa’s Union Station), the West Memorial Building rehabilitation project in Ottawa for interim use by the Supreme Court of Canada, and a heritage study and conservation guidelines for the Ilot Bonsecours in Old Montréal.
