Sonya Jensen is a heritage conservation architect with 25 years experience working architectural heritage conservation and museum design in Canada. She holds a Professional Degree in Architecture, and a Master’s in Architecture Theory from McGill University and a Master of Science in historic conservation from Oxford-Brookes University. During her studies in the United Kingdom, Sonya focused on the interpretation and design of landmark places, aiming to explore how they can reflect diverse perspectives and co-existing realities. She believes architecture provides a unique opportunity to connect the past and present, allowing for a deep examination of the world and the opportunity to build upon that understanding.
Professionally, her work revolves around public cultural identity, including facility planning, museum collections management, and historic preservation. She has been a project manager for serveral conservation projects, including stone masonry envelope repair on institutional buildings and restoration of historic churches. Currently, she is working on the Rehabilitation of the Canadian Parliament (Centre Block), considered one of the most extensive and complex heritage restoration and modernization projects in Canadian history. Her ongoing role in the project is as Design Manager of the Pearson Special Rooms.
