Lara is an architect and cultural heritage specialist with a background in heritage conservation, museum studies, and community engagement. She holds master’s degrees in Architecture (2013), Restoration and Conservation of Monuments and Sites (2018), and Museography and Conservation techniques (2022) from the Lebanese University.
Lara has led numerous conservation projects, including the UNESCO-supported restoration of Sursock Palace in Beirut. Her expertise spans from damage assessment and restoration of historic structures to the development of heritage safeguard guidelines, the organization of capacity-building programs in traditional building techniques and the management of community participation and awareness initiatives. She has also contributed to the creation of heritage restoration manuals and curated participatory exhibitions that bridge art, community, and cultural heritage.
Currently pursuing her Ph.D. at Pennsylvania State University's BEAM lab, Lara's research focuses on enhancing community-based post-disaster recovery in heritage-rich environments. Her work integrates building resilience analysis with local knowledge and stakeholder perspectives, aiming to develop more effective, culturally sensitive approaches to disaster recovery and heritage preservation.
